FIFA Suspend Teams From Russia Over Ukraine Invasion

    The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has suspended football teams from Russia indefinitely in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine that has left at least 240 civilian casualties. The decision was taken on Monday by the Bureau of FIFA Council and the Executive Committee of UEFA following the initial decisions adopted by the bodies. A statement to this effect on FIFA’s website reads, “Following the initial decisions adopted by the FIFA Council and the UEFA Executive Committee, which decisions envisaged the adoption of additional measures, FIFA and UEFA have today decided together that all Russian teams, whether national representative teams or club teams, shall be suspended from participation in both FIFA and UEFA competitions until further notice. “These decisions were adopted today by the Bureau of the FIFA Council and the Executive Committee of UEFA, respectively the highest decision-making bodies of both institutions on such urgent matte...

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday said 130 Nigerians have been received by officials in Romania. It added that it had provided accommodation for the Nigerians as arrangements were being made to fly them back home.  Nigerians still trapped in the Ukrainian crisis who were desperately trying to cross to other countries but were being turned back by officials. “They are not allowing us to leave the Ukrainian border. Nigerians Stage Protest In Abuja Over Russian Invasion Of Ukraine

    Some Nigerians have staged a protest in front of the Russian Embassy in Abuja over the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops. Donning T-shirts saying ‘Stop The War’, the protesters in their numbers chanted songs and displayed placards to express their grievances. The protesters include parents, siblings, friends, and loved ones of Nigerians stranded in Ukraine.   They lamented the reports about the ordeal being faced by their loved ones in Ukraine, especially with many Nigerians prevented from crossing the border into Poland, Hungary and others.  They, therefore, called for peace.  There have been similar protests in some other cities across the world including in Russia, over 1,700 protesters had been arrested as of last Thursday.  Many Russian celebrities and public figures, including some working for state TV, have also spoken out against the attack. More update on the massacre of over over 20 mourners in Ebenebe community in Awka, Anambra State on Saturday. The burial of one Ozor, a suspected cult leader, became a killing field as a rival court group stormed the venue of the internment and opened fire on the mourners, leaving over 20 persons dead. Ozor, whose full name has been revealed as Chibuike Joseph Chukwuma Ozor, was shot and killed by a rival gang on December 30, 2021. A village source said that the killers of Ozor had sent a warning to the Ebenebe community, stating that he must never be buried with fanfare because he is a ‘wicked soul who destroyed so many people while he was living. A Suspected ritualists have reportedly killed a lady and plucked two of her eyes in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South local council of Delta State. According to source, the body of the lady was found mutilated by the roadside, along Ubulu-unor road. “The corpse of the lady was discovered by some passers-by who raised the alarm that attracted the community vigilance group. The victim was wearing a jean trousers and a white top. Her face was covered in blood and her two eyes were removed. The vigilance group called the police to the scene and they evacuated the corpse to the community morgue,” a source said. 13-Year-Old Boy Dies After Rape By Security Guard In Edo State

    A 13-years old teenager, Jeffery Ugiagbe, has reportedly died after Ovie Oktogbo, a security guard, raped him in the Ugbowo area of Edo State. It was learnt that 13-year-old Ugiagbe fell sick and thereafter told his parents that Oktogbo forcefully had anal sex with him. Upon medical examination, some of the teenager’s organs were discovered to have been damaged. However, the family of the deceased who mourned the teenager’s death demanded justice and asked for donations to pay off the debt the family had incurred to pay Ugiagbe’s medical bills. “I want Ovie Oktogbo sentenced to death, not life imprisonment. Presently, I am in debt. I am owing close to N3million,” the deceased’s father said. Ugiagbe was said to be Oktogbo’s ninth victim. “I have raped nine boys. Heroes of Ukraine: Ukrainian soldier, Vitaly Skakun is hailed as a hero after sacrificing his life to blow up the Henichesky Bridge.

Vitaly Skakun sacrificed his life to blow up the Henichesky Bridge near Kyiv, in an attempt to block the passage of Russian troops   Faced with a column of Russian tanks advancing towards the bridge, a decision was made to destroy it using mines. Skakun didn't have enough time to leave the area and detonate the mines remotely, so he contacted his battalion to let them know that he would do it from where he was.  An explosion was heard - successfully destroying the bridge but also killing Skakun. A post from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said: "His heroic deed significantly slowed the advance of the enemy, which allowed the unit to redeploy and organise the defence" and that he would be nominated for a national award. BREAKING NEWS: Court Sentences Billionaire Kidnapper, Evans, Two Others To Life Imprisonment

Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, and two others, have been declared guilty of kidnapping and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Lagos High Court, sitting in Ikeja. Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Lagos High Court in Ikeja on Friday 25/2/2022, sentenced the man popularly known as billionaire kidnapper or Evans, and his accomplices – Uche Amadi and Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu to life imprisonment. The Ikeja High Court premises in Lagos were under tight security as the judge gave the verdict. The court found them guilty of conspiracy and kidnapping of Mr Donatius Dunu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Donatus Dunu was kidnapped on February 14, 2017, and a ransom of €223,000 was collected from his family. The judge, however, discharged and acquitted the other co-defendants: Ogechi Uchechukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi, formerly a soldier; and Victor Aduba, also an ex-soldier. The court said there was no evidence linking them to the crimes.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to within 48 hours, respond to an application the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Abba Kyari, who is currently in its custody, filed to be released on bail on health ground. Justice Inyang Ekwo made the order on a day the NDLEA claimed that it was not served with Kyari’s application. Counsel to the agency, Mr. Mike Kasa, told the court that he had yet to receive a copy of the bail request that was attached to Kyari’s suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22. Consequently, a short ruling, Justice Ekwo, directed both parties to go back and put their house in order, even as he adjourned the matter till Monday to hear the motion for bail. Bayelsa State Vigilante Service has apprehended a man, Ebere Nwosu for allegedly attempting to abduct three minors along the popular Tombia-Etegwe roundabout axis of the state capital, Yenagoa. Former Minister Bags Three-Month Jail Term For Fraud

The Federal High Court in Jos, has  sentenced former Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Ochekpe and two others for N450 million fraud. The court also sentenced Raymond Dabo and Leo Jitung to three months imprisonment each. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged them in 2018 with conspiracy and money laundering. Delivering the ruling, Justice Musa Kurna, gave the convicts an option to pay a fine of N1 million each. Ochekpe, Dabo and Jitung had entered a plea of no-case submission. While sentencing the convicts, the judge held that after withdrawing the said amount from the bank, they did not withhold the money to themselves but delivered the same to a governorship candidate, as such were not guilty of retaining the sum for themselves. Kurna stated that, they were guilty of withdrawing the N450 million which he said was above the threshold of an individual withdrawal. Ex-Delta Poly Rector Bags Two-Year, One-Month Jail Term

A former Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, Dr. Edna Mogekwu, has been sentenced to jail for refusing to honour invitations on allegations of corruption from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Dr. Mogekwu, who was sentenced to a two-year, one-month jail term, as well as three principal officers of the institution who were also convicted, were charged before Justice Marshal Umukoro, of the Delta State High Court, Asaba, by ICPC over their failure to appear before investigators to clear themselves of allegations of corruption. The principal officers convicted alongside the Rector by the court to one-month prison term each are a former Registrar, Collins Onyenwenu, a former Bursar, Andy Ughusuena and a former Director of Works of the Polytechnic, Joseph Idabor.
