‘Yahoo Boys’ Now Going Spiritual, Doing Money Rituals, We’re Coming For You — EFCC Warns Internet Fraudsters
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, has announced that it will step up its efforts to crack down on internet fraudsters, often known as ‘Yahoo guys.’
The EFCC stated on Facebook that it has learned that Yahoo boys have taken a spiritual path, offering sacrifices and performing rituals. It did, however, state that its officers will pursue all cyber fraudsters regardless of the circumstances.
The post reads:“No going back on the onslaught against yahoo-yahoo or yahoo-plus, whatever nomenclature. Give up, or give in. The Eagle will get you anytime, anywhere! #Eagleseries57 #EFCC #stopyahooyahoonow.”
Meanwhile, the EFCC also posted a photo that reads,“Yahoo boys now going Spiritual. Even doing money Ritual and making it the new Usual. We will come for those individual(s). Tell them, it won’t be business as usual.”
This could be tied to the country’s recent spike in recorded incidents of ritual killings.
Afeez Olalere, 32, was arrested in January by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command. He is suspected of being an internet fraudster.
He admitted to killing his younger brother with the assistance of their mother in order to prop up his fading Yahoo (advanced fee fraud) business.
Additionally, the police apprehended Moses Oko, 20, for murdering his girlfriend, Jennifer Anthony, for ritual purposes. Jennifer, a student of the University of Jos, was discovered lifeless in a hotel in Jos on New Year’s Day, near Zaria Road. Additionally, several of her body parts were missing. Moses was apprehended in Benue State after fleeing from Jos following the commission of the crime.
Soliu Majekodunmi, a teenager, reportedly admitted to murdering his girlfriend, Sofiyah, for alleged money ritual purposes.
