#breakingNews: Tanko Muhammad Resigns As CJN, Olukayode Ariwoola To Be Sworn In



The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, has resigned, Channels Television learnt on Monday.

Sources told Channels Television that Justice Muhammad resigned on Sunday night, citing ill-health as the reason for his decision.

Information also has it that arrangements are ongoing to swear in the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.

According to reports, a formal announcement will be made shortly.

Until his resignation, reports had it that Justice Muhammad was seriously ill.

Only last week, 14 justices of the Supreme Court had written him a letter to lament the decrepit state of affairs in the apex court.

Senators Move To Impeach Ahmed Lawan As Senate President

The Senator representing Osun East and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Customs and Excise, Francis Fadahunsi, has said that opposition parties in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, have made up their minds to sack the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, if he made any attempt to frustrate the sacking process against the President, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), next month. Fadahunsi, in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, said majority of the senators across political party lines had already passed a vote of no confidence on Buhari because of his administration’s inability to address the worsening security situation in the country. BREAKING NEWS: HOUSE OF REPS CONCURS WITH SENATE ON OMO-AGEGE ANTI-SEXUAL HARASSMENT BILL

The House of Representatives has, by way of concurrence with the Senate, passed the Senator Ovie Omo-Agege ‘Bill for an Act to make Comprehensive Provisions for the Prohibition and Punishment of Sexual Harassment of Students by Educators in Tertiary Educational Institutions’. The House passed the Bill in its Committee of the Whole on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.  This is a major development in the principled quest for a stringent national law to properly deal with the inhuman scourge of sexual harassment in our academic campuses.  With this development, the Bill will now be transmitted to President Muhammadu Buhari for his assent.
