I WILL MERGE THE UNIVERSITIES IN DELTA STATE TO CUT COST, IF ELECTED... Dr. Goodnews Agbi

The Delta State New Nigeria’s People Party, NNPP, governorship candidate, Dr Goodnews Agbi, stated that he would merge the universities in the State if elected. In a statement personally signed by him on Friday, he said that Delta is a rich State but has been unfortunate to have serial incompetent leaders who are more interested in living profligate lives rather than serving the interest of the people.

Dr Agbi wonders why a State that is yet to satisfy the yearnings of the people, will embark upon the establishment of more universities that she can neither maintain nor employ qualified and adequate lecturers. He is surprised how a government that cannot pay salaries of the existing universities, yet will embark on creating new ones.

According to the Don who is also a lecturer at the faculty of Engineering, Delta State University, Oleh Campus:

"Lecturers' salaries and the working environment, especially at the Engineering faculty is pathetic and gory; nothing is standard from the learning environment to the laboratories and the uncompleted buildings, dotting everywhere in the campus, yet we have new universities being established. What manner of people do we have ruling us? It is very appalling and unjustifiable to have three State universities with its attendant overheads", he said.
.
In his words:
"I will merge the university at Asaba with that of Owa-Alero, make Oleh and Ozoro one university. We will then have only three vice chancellors, three bursars, three librarians and so on.
Asaba and Agbor will have one administrative structure, with departments and faculties that are not duplicated. We will have deans overseeing the faculties and no provost. Same goes for Oleh/Ozoro, one university with facilities that are not also replicated. Delta State University, Abraka will have it’s own Engineering and Law faculties at Abraka", he added.

The NNPP governorship candidate therefore promise that his government will save money from the duplicity of overheads which will be channeled to paying lecturers' salaries without putting burden of high school fees on parents. He also promise, if elected, to bring the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, back because this would provide medium level manpower which we badly needed.
