Edevbie vs Oborevwori: Appeal Court fixes August 19 for hearing


The Court of Appeal in Abuja has fixed August 19, 2022, as the date for proper hearing in the appeal seeking to upturn the judgement of the Federal High Court declaring Olorogun David Edevbie as the lawful candidate of the Delta State Peoples Democratic Party for the 2023 Governorship election.

Accordingly, all the respondents have been asked to file their replies within eight days while the appellant is to respond within two days.

It will be recalled that on July 7, 2022, the Federal High Court faulted the certificates and other documents filed by Sheriff Oborevwori for nomination as Gubernatorial candidate of the PDP and commanded both the party and INEC to immediately recognise Olorogun David Edevbie as the rightful and lawful candidate of the party for the forthcoming election.

Employers Risk One-month Imprisonment For Late Payment Of Salaries

House of Representatives has passed for second reading a bill to prohibit late payment of salaries, underpayment of wages, pension, and other emoluments in Nigeria. The bill sponsored by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila has passed for second reading following the debate on the general principle of the bill. The bill seeks to prohibit employees from owing salaries and other emoluments. The bill is prescribing punishment for such employers. For instance, owing salaries above 60days, such an employer risks 30 days imprisonment. Section 2 of the bill provides that “Every employer of labor in Nigeria, whether private or public, and whether it is employing any worker on permanent or contract basis must ensure that all payment of wages, salaries, pension and all benefits to workers are paid promptly without delay weekly, fortnightly monthly, quarterly or yearly as may be agreed by parties in the contract of employment of the additional individuals” In addition, the bill prohibits ar...

The Edo State Governor,Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, has addressed the rising issues of young boys engaging in internet fraud, popularly known as yahoo yahoo in Nigeria. The governor opined that these young people who are engaging in all sorts of illegitimate means to make money must be brilliant, he also urged that efforts must be made to redirect their thinking for positive and legitimate use.  Speaking at an education town hall meeting in the state on Friday, February 19, Governor Obaseki said “I am concerned. Cyber fraud and Yahoo culture are big issues. I am calling on everyone to please send as much information as you can to my office. On Monday, I am going to see the chairman of EFCC.
