Okowa has all it takes to be president - Spokesman

The former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, who resigned from the major opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, has joined the Labour Party (LP) to contest the 2023 presidential election. Peter Obi formally registered as a member of the party on Friday in his Ward in Anambra State. A close source to the former Anambra State governor disclosed the new development. Confusion As Electorate Act Might Exclude Omo-Agege, Oborevbori, Others from 2023 Election

Following the inability of Mr President to sign the re-amended version of the Electoral Act into Law, the Peoples Democratic Party has directed that only elected party officials and adhoc delegates will vote in the forth-coming primary election of the party, removing former and sitting elected council Chairmen, councilors, serving members of the House of Assembly and others from the delegates list. The implication is that all elected government functionaries including Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, Senate President, Dr Ahmed Lawan, Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, all members of the National Assembly, states House of Assembly members, elected council officials from participating in the 2023 general elections either as delegates or aspirants. Delta State Government  announced that it has approved the construction of an International Conference Centre in Asaba, the state capital.   The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu while briefing journalists  after the State Executive meeting stated that the construction of the International Conference Centre became necessary as the state capital continues to develop into a mega city. "Although we have an Events Centre, it doesn't serve the purpose of an international conference centre where different break-out rooms and committee meetings are usually held hence the need to have something of a world class standard," Mr Aniagwu said.

The Delta State Government has assured relevant stakeholders on the Clean Nigeria, Use the Toilet Campaign, that it will continue to pay attention to the water supply, sanitation and hygiene sector in the state. Students Rage As Edo Principal Absconds With WASSCE Fees

Some students of a secondary school in Edo State have reportedly been left abandoned as their proprietor fled with their West African Senior School Certificate Examination registration fees. The students who were determined to start their examination on Tuesday got to the school to meet an indication on the gate, announcing that the school had been put up for sale. According to reports, the sign explained that the “School is for sale”. Some of the students were observed vandalizing the classrooms, while others loitered within and outside the school premises.

Kaduna Police Arrest Gunrunner, Recover AK-47 Rifle, Vehicles

The Kaduna Police Command has arrested a man suspected to be the supplier of arms and ammunition to bandits terrorising the state.  Identified as Rilwanu Abdullahi, the command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said that the suspect was arrested by operatives attached to the Zaria command. Recovered from Abdullahi were  AK-47 rifle, 600 rounds of 7.62 X 39mm live ammunition concealed inside the fuel tank of a Volkswagen as well as two vehicles used in conveying weapons.

Police Nabbed Suspected Kidnappers With N2million Cash, Rifles In Bayelsa

Investigators of the Anti-kidnapping unit of the Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested a gun-running gang in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state. According to the police command, its operatives acting on a tip-off on May 12, around 5.50 pm, arrested the suspects at a brothel in the Ayama area. Asimin Butswat, the police spokesman, identified the suspects as; Seibo Dokubo, male, 32 years, “who is a native of Degema, Rivers State, and Boma Daniel, male, 45 years, a native of Patani, Delta State, who wanted to procure AK-47 rifles for kidnap purposes.”  According to the statement, one brownie pistol loaded with eight .9mm ammunition, three 12.7mm expended ammunition, a sum of N2million cash, and a suspected stolen Toyota Hilux 2021 model without registration number, were recovered from the suspects. A Suspected Fulani herdsmen have reportedly killed a young man in Okpulugwu Agu-Amede community in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State in a renewed attack. The incident, has thrown the community into mourning. The recent incident which occurred on Friday would be the seventh brutal attack on the agrarian community since January 2022.     It was gathered that the victim, Mr Ejike Odo, had got a report that his sister who went to farm was attacked and being raped by Fulani herdsmen while she was returning from farm, and he rushed to the farm to rescue her. “Unfortunately, the herdsmen who were about four overpowered him, stabbed several times before slitting his throat,” a community leader who gave his name as Justus Nwonye said. Delta Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Friday, charged beneficiaries of the state government Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Development Programmes to develop their businesses and shun the appetite of luxury especially at the beginning of their businesses. Ngige’s announcement followed a valedictory session held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in the nation’s capital, in honour of ministers seeking elective offices in the 2023 general elections. He had declared his intention to run for President in the forthcoming polls while addressing a crowd of supporters on April 19 at his hometown in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Three weeks later, President Muhammadu Buhari directed all appointed members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) running for elective offices to resign on or before May 16 – a directive which affected Ngige.

One of the richest monarchs in the world, President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates, has died at the age of 73. Sheikh Khalifa has been the president of the United Arab Emirates since 2004, but his role has been largely ceremonial since he suffered a stroke in 2014. Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, his half-brother, is now in charge of state affairs. The al-Nahyan family is thought to be worth $150 billion (£123 billion). Sheikh Khalifa was not only the president of the UAE, but also the ruler of Abu Dhabi, the oil-rich capital of the UAE's seven emirates. The official WAM news agency broke the news of his death.

ASABA: Today the Delta State Governor Sen Ifeanyi Okowa attended the graduation ceremony of over 700 youths who were trained and empowered through the Delta State Rural Youth Skill Acquisition (RYSA) led by the Commissioner for youth Comr Ifeanyi Egwuyega. Starters pack were presented to the beneficiaries at the Dome Event Centre Asaba . The RURAL YOUTH SKILL ACQUISITION PROGRAM (RYSA) is a scheme under the Delta State ministry of Youth Development that is geared at achieving human capital development.  Over seven hundred and ten Delta youths who have gone through the compulsory three months proficiency test on their respective skills ranging from, Hairdressing,Fashion and Designing,Tiling, Plumbing, electrical installation, wood work, Makeover and POP, Will today be handed over starter packs.
