Thugs Invade Catholic Church In Lagos, Cart Away PVC Registration Machines

Some thugs have invaded St. Bridget Catholic Church ljesha, Surulere Lagos, and carted away registration machines and disrupted officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission from registering people for the permanent voter card (PVC). As at the time of filing this report, the Parish Priest of the church this reportedly locked up the church while people who came out to get registered scampered for safety. A resident of the area who pleaded anonymity told Vanguard that the thugs invaded the venue, saying they wouldn’t be allowed to register because they won’t vote for their (thugs) candidate. He claimed they destroyed INEC materials and carted away some registration items He added that the police have been mobilised to the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

Terrorists Fire Shots At Police Zonal Headquarters In Kano

Suspected members of Boko Haram terrorists have fired shots at Zone 1 Police Headquarters along BUK Road in Kano. According to a security source, the terrorists came in three vehicles around 12:30 pm on Friday and fired several shots at the building, and then zoomed off. The source said security is being reinforced around the Police zonal headquarters to frustrate possible attacks by the terrorists. Recall that the terrorists had attacked the same headquarters on January 20, 2012, multiple attacks in Kano, which left at least scores of people dead in the attack

A suspected yahoo-boy has been given the beating of his life after he reportedly used his girlfriend for money ritual in Bayelsa state. This happened after the body of the young woman identified simply as Kate was found buried in the boyfriend's room at Okaka area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on Friday morning, July 29.  It was gathered that the deceased had been missing for days and the boyfriend identified as Joseph denied knowledge of her whereabouts. According to reports, family of the lady confronted him on Friday morning and demanded he must provide her dead or alive. After much pressure, he admitted that he killed her and buried the body in a shallow grave dug in his bedroom. The federal government has said that there is a need to regulate the birth rate in the country to achieve sustainable development. The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, disclosed this at the celebration of World Population Day, organized by the National Population Commission (NPC). Ehanire who was represented by Director, of Family Health, Salma Ibrahim Anas, said it would be difficult for Nigeria to achieve its Sustainable Development Goals with the current 5.3 fertility average in the country. He said;  “We must regulate fertility, without fertility regulation, we’re going nowhere. This is the key to unlocking the success of sustainable development in Nigeria and the Ministry of Health has positioned itself to fulfill this purpose.”

The Anambra State Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Children’s Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo has rescued a 17-year-old boy from his abusive guardians. Obinabo rescued the boy, after some individuals, he contacted about his plight brought him to Awka from Onitsha. The boy identified as Chikamnanyo Olisaemeka who hails from Nnewi, explained that his mother handed him over to his uncle in February this year, but since then his life hasn’t been the same. Nigeria Borrowed N3 Trillions To Pay Salaries, Others

The Nigerian government borrowed over N3 trillion to cover non-capital expenditure in the first four months of 2022, a register that covers salaries, government running costs and even debt repayment, a PREMIUM TIMES analysis of government spending data shows. The spending comes amid Nigeria’s bloated deficit spending and poor revenue. The government in its fiscal performance report for January through April said the spending target for the period was N5.77 trillion, while the actual spending as of April 31 was N4.72 trillion. A breakdown of the actual spending within the quarter shows that N1.94 trillion was for debt service, N1.26 trillion for personnel cost, including pensions. The remaining went to statutory transfers, overhead cost and debt servicing.

Nigerian soldiers reportedly took cuts in the ransom paid by one of the passengers seized by bandits who intercepted a Kaduna-bound train on March 28. Deji Oyewunmi, a manager at Iris Smart Technologies, an immigration contractor in charge of international passport printing and distribution, was one of the three victims released on Monday by armed groups after paying a N100 million ransom. It was unclear how much the other victims paid, but one of them said the Buhari regime had no input in the efforts that yielded his release. It was learnt that Mr Oyewunmi’s firm raised N60 million, while the remaining N40 million came from a coalition of friends and family. ASUU seeks bill to ban foreign education for children of public officials

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have called for a bill to regulate how children of public officers enroll in schools outside the shores of Nigeria.  Kingdom Tombra, Chairman of the University of Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island chapter of the union, made this known at the solidarity protest organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday in Yenagoa. A loud explosion was heard in the premises housing the office of the Secretary to the Kogi State Government. The office premises is next to Lugard street, housing the Kogi State council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists secretariat. The loud explosion was heard around 8.30 am on Tuesday as journalists gathered to prepare for the day’s assignments. When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, confirmed the explosion. He said, “Yes, what happened was that we were informed of a package that looked like a bomb was left on the premises and I immediately deployed the bomb disposal unit there to assess the object. “The object was immediately blown up. The explosion you heard was the handwork of our bomb disposing unit brought about by their efforts to blow up the object.” An investigation has also commenced ascertaining what the object was.

A police officer has been caught on tape boldly seeking bride from motorists while reiterating that he does not collect “change”. A member of Nigerian police officer that was filmed by road users, the officer and his colleague stopped a vehicle and demanded money from them after inspecting the car papers. The officer was then offered an undisclosed amount, but he declined it and stated he only collects a large sum.
