IGP Orders Enactment of New Salary Structure For Nigeria Policemen

As part of measures to stop policemen from engaging in industrial action, the Nigeria Police Force has ordered the immediate implementation of the new salary structure. The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, also approved the distribution of uniforms and other accoutrements to men of the NPF. It was disclosed that some policemen are planning to embark on strike over the non-implementation of the new police salary structure, the failure in providing sophisticated weapons to fight crime and poor general welfare of officers. The force headquarters had earlier debunked the rumour, maintaining that information about the purported strike is fake and mischievous. However, it appears the NPF is not leaving anything to chance as the IGP is currently taking urgent steps to stop the said industrial action. NDLEA Traces ₦4.2 Billion To Abba Kyari, Co-Accused’s Accounts

Founding indicated that suspended super cop and former Commander of the Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari; as well as his deputy, ACP Sunday Ubua, allegedly received a combined N4.2bn from their separate bank accounts. The details are part of a report sent to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, by the NDLEA. According to the drug enforcement agency, not less than N1.4bn passed through Kyari’s account while he was commander of the IRT. Also, Kyari’s deputy, Ubua, may have received far more than him as not less than N2.8bn was traced to his eight bank accounts. According to report, Ubua allegedly received a lump sum of N2.664bn on August 15, 2019. The NDLEA is now working on the assumption that the sums traced to Kyari and his deputy may be connected to the sale of some illicit substances including Tramadol worth N3bn.

Gov Diri Attends Art Exhibition At Korean Embassy In Abuja

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, today attended an exhibition of Nigerian arts at the Republic of Korea Embassy in Abuja.  The exhibition titled "Beauty of Nigeria" featured Nigerian-produced paintings and sculptures and was a collaboration between the Korean Embassy, Nike Art Gallery and the Female Artists Association of Nigeria (FEAAN). Governor Diri was at the event on the invitation of the Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Kim Young-chae, as a way of building on the existing cordial relationship between the embassy and the Bayelsa State Government.  Recall that the Korean envoy was in Bayelsa with his wife on a three-day official visit in July 2021.

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has rejected the ruling of an Abuja Federal High Court which sacked him from office. Umahi maintained that he is still the governor of the state despite the court ruling. The governor said the ruling would be disregarded by his followers. Addressing journalists in his office in Abakaliki, Governor Umahi described the ruling as “jungle justice that was purchased.” The governor insisted that such ruling was not a good development for the Judiciary.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Joseph Egbunike incharge of Abba Kyari Probe Panel, is Dead

Egbunike died at the National Hospital in Abuja on Tuesday night after collapsing in his office. He headed the Federal Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) of the Nigerian Police Force. The deceased who hails from Onitsha, Anambra State, was also the head of a Special Investigation Panel (SIP), constituted by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba to investigate Abba Kyari, the suspended head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) over his illicit dealings with disgraced international fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi. Prior to his appointment as DIG in 2020, Egbunike was the head of the Police Finance Department. The senior police officer holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Accounting degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as well as a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons. ), B.L., a Masters in International Law and Diplomacy (MILD), and a Ph.D. in Criminology.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday 8/3/2022, sacked Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State and his Deputy, Dr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC. The judgment delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo held that the total number of 393, 042 votes governor Umahi secured during the March 9, 2019 governorship election in Ebonyi state, belonged to the PDP and same could not be legally transferred to the APC. This was resultant upon the posting of the 17th Commandant of Command Secondary School, Mbiri, (Ika North-East Local Government Area) since the school was established 17 years ago. Yoruba Nation campaigner, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Ighoho has been released in Benin Republic.  Igboho was released on Monday to Yoruba Nation arrowhead Leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Banji Akintoye. The 49-year-old agitator has spent over 231 days in Benin Republic prison after he was arrested on July 19, 2021. Many supporters have lamented the continuous detention of Igboho ‘without trial’.   The legal battle to either extradite Igboho to Nigeria or free him has witnessed a series of dramatic twists and turns.

    The Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) has disclosed that it is working to ensure Air Nigeria begins to convey Nigerians before the end of President Buhari’s administration. Michael Ohiani, The Acting Director-General of the commission, said all hands were on deck to get it operational.
